My Rant:
Amazing, Lover at Last completely blew me away. As always J.R. Ward doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the Black Dagger brothers, the authors writing style is very engaging and these series relentlessly keeps you hooked. I felt like we got to see Qhuinn, John, and Blay grow-up in this series and that what made it a really special read me.
I love, love Qhuinn, He is brave, heroic and just plan awesome. The way he cares for the other brothers, Layla is astounding. I love Qhuinn, as a character he was broken and unaware of it. Qhuinn transformation was not an easy one. It was very emotional for me to through it with him and I am glad I did. All along Qhuinn did not want to accept who he truly was. His defects made him feel insecure so being in love with another man seemed to affect him so deeply because all he could think about was, here is another defect for others to judge him by. So he hid is love for Blay so deep there is the ache of emptiness.
Blay and Saxton break-up was just the momentum that Blay and Qhuinn needed. As the romance began to bloom between the characters the changes began. Qhuinn began to realize that he loved Blay and he took too long to tell him and maybe it was too late. Blay was tossing with his own emotions because he felt that Qhuinn was only using him. But when the romance exploded on the pages there was no denying that these two were meant to be together. Talking about the heat scenes, I really don’t care what anyone thinks, Qhuinn and Blay erotic scenes were some of the hottest scenes I read and JR. did not spare us any detail.
Quin through his bravery earned a special gift from the king, and I am so sorry I can’t tell you what that is. You would have to read the book to find out. Layla is doing fine with the young but there is also something happening between her and Xcor which I think will tip the scale sooner or later in the series. I like Xcor, although he is ruthless and tried to kill the king so on some level you can’t help but want to hate him but there is the nobleness about him. Especially sense you see how he cares for Layla.
There is a new traitor in the mist. The way the book leaves us it seems that the traitor might be someone we have come to care for but I am hoping that this is not true. But in the story you can see the motive. As of right now I feel like that traitor is Saxton. Is he the traitor, I don’t know. I guess only time will tell.
There is a lot going on in the brotherhood. Xcor and his misfits are still running around and causing chaos. Avail is still Avail, into his own little world completely staying neutral. His interest is about his wellbeing alone until he meets the burglar and to my surprise and his, she completely knocked him on his butt. He really didn’t see that bump in the road and when it came down to exploring what was happening between them his little burglar was kidnapped. To me Avail seems like an interesting character but he has chosen no alliance but to himself. It will be interesting to see how that all plays out in the future.
OMG ok, I am already at 5 or 6 paragraphs in and could completely write more that’s how good this book is. The action is always blazing and the romance is off the charts. There is so much going on that you cannot get bored with the plot or the characters. I enjoy the fact that you’re reading several stories about several characters which keeps you completely interested and on the edge of your seat because you always want to know what going to happen next. I can’t believe that I totally forgot to talk about Trez and I Am, the shadows and what’s happening with them so bear with me as I get this tidbit out of my system. Trez is promised to be mated to the queen of his clan. Accepting that role for him is emasculation because he would have no say or rule of what happening in his life. He feels that if he sully’s himself by sleeping around maybe the queen will reject him. But what was shocking and completely took me off guard was the fact that he is falling for a chosen. OMG, look at the possibilities this has on the story itself. Will Trez and I Am become a part of the brotherhood, at this point I am smiling with glee, because these shadows are now living with the brotherhood? And oh and there is engagement that was so heart felt it made me cry. Opps, I dropped too much information as it is. So I am just going to shut my trap.
My Recommendation:
I rated this book 5 out of 5 Purple Rant Hearts and would recommend Lover at last and the Black Dagger Brother Hood Series to anyone that loves vampires that totally kick A$$.
