Nothing Else Matters by Riley Ross

Ten minutes after they left, Mike collapsed on the sofa and pulled me down beside him. The silence was uncomfortable for me because I knew the scene between his parents was weighing heavily on his shoulders. Straddling his hips, I started to unbutton his white Versace shirt. I was ready to alleviate some stress with some good old sexual healing; for good measure I teasingly grinded against him. Shifting slightly, I leaned towards him and pressed my lips against his neck. I could feel his pulse accelerate.

“I’m ready to collect my reward for being good.” Of course I was saying this and his cell phone rings.

“Hold on Jules, that’s Billy.” He said fishing his phone out of his pocket. Just listening to his tone let me know that something bad had happened at the bar. After a few moments of bickering, Mike hung up the phone and let a string of curse words fly. “Sorry Sweets but there has been an incident with one of the contractors.”

“Go take care of it. I’ll claim my reward later.” I said before kissing him on the lips. He put on his jacket and left.

While he was taking care of business, I decided to take a bubble bath to help ease the tension of the long rigorous day. As the hot water ran, I liberally poured the vanilla and lavender bubble bath into the steaming crystal blue water. Pulling my auburn hair into a bun, I slowly got into the warm water and sighed with happiness. Since I was a little frustrated that we didn’t get a chance to finish what we started, I decided to take care of my own needs. While in the water, I used the hand held shower wand to relieve some tension. After I was thoroughly cleaned from head to toe, I slipped on one of Mike’s old tee shirts

to sleep in. Once I was comfortable in my red flannel pajama bottoms, I curled up on the couch with the latest paranormal romance novel by an up and coming author.

When he came home around midnight, I could tell that he was not in the best of moods. “Hey Sweets, you didn’t have to wait up… but I’m glad you did.” He said planting aggressive but passionate kisses on my lips.

“Everything ok?” I asked on an inhale. His response was to scoop me up and to carry me into the bedroom.

Excerpt “Red Hawk Mercenary Group: Ghost” by Tigris Eden

Fuck Reverend Mother, damn woman always handed out the impossible missions. That was the thought that played in Bekah’s head while she lay adjacent to the artificial bushes and waited for her mark. Sergei, the giant ass Russian with a taste for inter-verse drug trafficking and arms dealing. He still hadn’t showed his ugly face. The fucker never kept to a schedule. It was hard to track his big hairy ass down and still, she waited. The scabrous ground was unyielding and the sharp metal thorns from the bushes prodded and poked her skin, the weight from her Tac 2 ray gun wasn’t heavy, she could easily pack up and head off into the night if the situation called for it, but she hoped this would end here. She didn’t want to do this again. She’d wasted six months tracking him. Granted, it wasn’t a universal six months, because that would have been a bitch.

Fuck! She had an itch, right in the middle of her spine and she wouldn’t move to placate it. The feeling of ants marching up her back, dancing right over the spot she couldn’t reach, made her tense. Even if she could move she wouldn’t. Not until her assignment was complete, there was a reason her code name was Ghost. Rebekah stilled her nerves and listened. There was the sound of a car pulling up the drive. All senses on alert, she breathed deep to calm herself and counted from ten down.

“Ten… nine… eight… seven,” finally the bastard appeared in his piece of shit Audi. Exhaust fumes emitted from the pipe in a cloud of white as the car choked off. Bracing her shoulders, she released the latch on the trigger. How she loved her Tac 2; the most advanced version of the precision rifle, the element designed to insure the best shooting platform. She could engage the enemy from 1500 meters or more, with its straight pull action she could

recharge with minimum movement. She’d only need the one shot, anything more and she’d compromise her position.

About the Author

There is really not much to say... I love to write, read, and listen to music. My attempt at a music career sadly ended at the Apollo one warm night in May. LOL (Side note: I was not booed just outdone by two munchkins rapping to Biggy Smalls, they were good.
Military brat extraordinaire; have traveled to a lot of interesting places. This February I will be going over to the other side of the pond where I will spend two weeks in Europe. I will be in Cambridge, London, Paris, Versailles, Bruges, and hopefully Cardiff.

The very first time I put pen to paper in story fashion (for fun), was in 6th grade. The story was called, The Case of The Missing Pepperoni. It was a cute mystery where all the ingredients and shop appliances came to life when the store owner closed up for the evening. See, pretty boring stuff. I always say I'm not the interesting one, but the people around me.

Excerpt of Mail Order Groom by Ty Langston

Her face went blank. These were plans that had been in the works since they moved from their hometown in Nebraska three years ago. This wasn’t anything new to him. Do I really seem that miserable? I love my home, my house. The only thing missing is him.

“I’m not unhappy. Chad you knew when we moved here that my life would be different. I’m the lead scientist on an alternative energy team that could change history as we know it. People depend on me for their vision, their livelihood and for funding. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve wanted to change how people used natural resources. I am so close now. I’m sorry that I made it seem that I didn’t support you because I do. I believe that you’re a great sports manager and you have a great hockey team that’s on a great undefeated streak. Your team will get that Division title. I know it in my heart. ”

Chad’s eyes rose with surprise. His pursed lips curved gradually into a smile. “Wow, you knew that? I didn’t think you did or even cared if our team was undefeated.”

She put her petite hand on his lap. She scooted closer to him on the seat. “Of course I do. Just because I’m not always with you, doesn’t mean that I’m not reading or watching or taking an interest in what you do.”

Chad kissed her forehead. “Ok. I’m sorry. I’ll try to be more understanding.”

Her hand gently rubbed his inner thigh. “Me too. I’ll try to be more present. After tomorrow, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

The slightest touch of her hand on his thigh was making his cock swell with desire. He put his hand on top of hers and pushed it deeper into his lap. “Are we okay now?”

She whispered into his ear and continued to caress his thigh. She could feel his body temperature rise between the layers of fabric separating them. “Yes, I promise that on my end things will get better.”

“Can I spend the night with you? I miss you so much.” He groaned.

“I miss you too. Of course you can, you can stay for as long as you like. I bought it for us, babe.” She told him as she continued to rub his hardened inner thigh. The cream table cloth strategically concealed his swelling member underneath the table.

“I will say that I do love your new bed. It’s so big and comfortable. I could sleep in it for a week.” He said as he kissed her cheek.

“It’s our bed. And I think tonight, it’s time we finally break it in.” she told him.

About the Author

As a child, multi-published author Ty Langston loved to read about dragons and knights so much that one day, her grandmother told her to "just write about them."

So she did.

From that day forward, she never left home without her pen, a notebook, and some kind of music playing in the background. Her love of reading expanded from fantasy into science fiction, and eventually into paranormal romance and erotica.

She enjoys different works from George Martin, Anne McCaffrey, Stephen King, and Jackie Collins. But some of Ty's favorite writers are from the world of TV and film: namely, Tudors creator Michael Hirst, and the late John Hughes.

Ty has a certificate in Broadcast Journalism along with a degree in Business Administration. She is single and enjoys spending time with friends and family

My Review

My Rant: These short stories were really cute. I did enjoy them although according to the title I was looking for them to be heavy in the heat index but they were not. The story line to the short stories was engaging but the story that grabbed me the most was by Tigris Eden. Maybe its my paranormal alter ego screaming to make a scene but Tigirs story captured me the most. I loved the plot and wish I could dive into more of the story. By the time the action was about to kick off the story stopped. What a tease and it was getting good too. Especially when green eyes was making his moves on ghost. I really want to read the continuation of this story I am dying to know if they would ever meet up again and finish what they started together.

Please by all means don't let my paranormal bias over shadow the other stories because they were good. Nothing else matters was an easy read but also began to pick up the speed toward the end and as soon as the mother and father dropped the unexpected news their children the story ends also in a cliffhanger. I want to know how Jules was going to decided between her brother and her husband. It was interesting to see that the outcome to her decision could go both way and both decisions had consequences.

The mail order groom story was touching. There was some emotional angst in the story and of course the sexual tension was there through the characters. But it was sad to see Chad break up with Jessica but I could not blame him one bit. Its hard to compete with someone work or hobby that is naturally their first love. If I was Chad I would have walked too because if things didn't change the romance between them will always be one sided.

The authors paint a very vivid picture of the hunks in these stories that your mouth waters like an over flowing canal. The men were the perfect chiseled males that any women would want to read about just before bed but as with any short story you don't have the time to get attached to the characters but they make easy reads especially when you want to read something that you can finish quickly. The way the stories ended will leave you wanting to know more or desiring the outcome.

My Recommendation:

I rated this book 3 out of 5 purple rant hearts. The stories were short enough to quench your reading frenzy with out the need to fully commit to a longer book.
