Hey guys! I’m S. M. Boyce (call me Boyce)—fantasy author of
the young adult Grimoire Saga. I’ve been invited over to share a guest-post
version of truth or dare. I chose truth. So here are 10 things you probably
didn’t know about me.
# 10—My first book sucked
I was five, and I wrote it for an elementary school book
contest. The title: The Lonely Pickle. The
plot involved the last pickle in a jar and its quest for friends. In hindsight,
kinda morbid. I honestly don’t remember the ending of that little
cardboard-bound treasure, and that’s probably a good thing. I’d like to think
I’ve improved since then.
# 9—Dory from Finding Nemo always makes me smile
I keep a plastic figurine of Dory at my desk, complete with
a mini green mask. It’s a reminder to “just keep swimming” when I get
frustrated or stuck.
# 8—I’ve had 13 jobs since 2006
It actually took me a little bit to count them up, but yeah.
Thirteen. Some of that was because of part time work through college, and
several other jobs were entrepreneurial attempts that failed. But I justify
that because it’s often said writers tend to have incredibly long resumes.
The worst of them: working as a leasing assistant for a
crummy apartment complex with horrible management. I had foot surgery within
two weeks of starting, but they still made me hobble around to post eviction
notices on doors. I quit within a month.
# 7—I am always cold
Seriously. It doesn’t seem to matter what season it is or
how many layers I wear—I’m nearly always cold. That makes road trips annoying
for those stuck in the car with me…especially if I have control over the AC.
# 6—I’m a Twitter addict
I read through my followers’ tweets and do my best to reply
to mentions as much as possible. Tweet
me a hello if you’re addicted to the site as well.
# 5—I store my inspiration on Pinterest
I’m a pretty visual person, so I track any images that
inspire a character or story. It’s easiest to keep them on Pinterest, and you’re welcome to
browse my “Swipes” boards to see what inspires me. You can also check out my awesomeness board for a
laugh.
# 4—I have a degree in Creative Writing
It qualifies me to serve you french friends. Luckily, I’ve
been able to do pretty well off my novels instead.
# 3—I love engaging with fans
It’s one of the best parts of my job. Whether it’s replying
to a fan letter, meeting readers at conventions, or just having a conversation
on Twitter, I’m always game to say hello.
# 2—I married my soul mate
I never thought another person could complete me—I’ve always
been a loner—and my hubby proved me wrong. I fall more in love with him every
day. I know. I’m gooey.
# 1—Writing is my career
I take writing seriously by having as much fun with it as
possible. Sounds weird? Yeah, so am I. But I truly love what I do, and I’ll do
it forever.
I hope you enjoy my novels. Even if you pick one up and hate
it, I appreciate you taking the time to try. For those who really enjoy my
novels and love to review, I have an ARC
signup available, where you can get lifetime
notifications for free review copies of all my future works.

Kara Magari is about to discover
a beautiful world full of terrifying things—Ourea.
Kara, a college student still
reeling from her mother’s recent death, has no idea the hidden world of Ourea
even exists until a freak storm traps her in a sunken library. With no way out,
she opens an ancient book of magic called the Grimoire and unwittingly becomes
its master, which means Kara now wields the cursed book’s untamed power.
Discovered by Ourea’s royalty, she becomes an unwilling pawn in a
generations-old conflict—a war intensified by her arrival. In this world of
chilling creatures and betrayal, Kara shouldn’t trust anyone… but she’s being
hunted and can’t survive on her own. She drops her guard when Braeden, a native
soldier with a dark secret, vows to keep her safe. And though she doesn’t know
it, her growing attraction to him may just be her undoing.
For twelve years, Braeden
Drakonin has lived a lie. The Grimoire is his one chance at redemption, and it
lands in his lap when Kara Magari comes into his life. Though he begins to care
for this human girl, there is something he wants more. He wants the Grimoire.
