Book Blurb: Gretchen Finch’s job would be much easier
if she weren’t alone in the jungle with a brilliant recluse whose every glance
sets her on fire. But the more she focuses on her work, the closer she gets to
unlocking the mysteries of a terrible creature—the Night Demon—that threatens
the world as she knows it. Though her scientific mind tells her it’s
impossible, she’s beginning to believe the ancient Mayan tales as the sinister
jungle comes alive around her.
Lukas Smith has spent hundreds of years searching for
answers to his immortal Night Walker nature. As a series of ancient glyphs
become clear, he’s about to find out more than he’d ever hoped, but the more he
learns, the more his fate intertwines with the Night Demon, and the harder it
becomes to hide his immortal secret from the beautiful, intelligent Gretchen.
My Rant:
Loved it
completely loved it, not just because of the shape shifters with fangs but
because the book was so compelling. The characters were so easy to get attached
too especially Lukas. I was completely fantasizing and drooling over him ( opp's I got saliva on my shirt).Lukas is mine period., yes I said it MINE.
The book flowed with ease. Before I knew it I was entrapped in the story. Lukas was running away from his past. He could not tolerate himself because of the terrible things he did when he was first turned into a nightwalker. He was ashamed of the acts he committed that he completely felt like he wasn’t worth saving or wasn’t even the man he should be for Gretchen, who was falling for him.

Gretchen an archeologist was working for Lukas helping him
to read ancient glyphs to determine the origins of the nightwalkers. Lukas was
so set on find the key to unlock the curse that he wasn’t aware that he and
Gretchen were close to unlocking the Night Demon.
The author
really focused on the darkness of the villain. You felt the fear the characters
displayed and when the villain carried out her orders I was completely in shock
by the devious deed. At this point I am completely glued to the pages.
What was
fascinating to me was the author wrote in so many POV’s. It was good to get
inside the other character to feel what they felt and see the story being told
form their eyes, especially the other nightwalkers.
Now you all know I rarely rant about a
heroine, but I definitely have to for Gretchen. I completely loved her
character. She was smart, caring but firm and I had to respect her for that.
She gave Lukas a run for his money literally and I was rooting for them to get
together. Although a piece of me wanted to keep Lukas to myself. Grrrrhhhhhhh, MINE.
I know I am being possessive but I need to mark Lukas as my own. LOL J
I have read
the prequel in the series I can definitely say it was just as good as this
one but this book could be read as a stand-alone. The author walks you through
the story but you also get a glimpse of the nightwalker's past so you don’t feel
like you missed anything.
Overall the
author did a great job at painting the story and the characters. The plot kept
you on pins and needles and when the story ended I was left wanting and needing to read
more. This is my first time reading Lisa Kessler’s books and I can guarantee it
wont be my last.
My Recommendation:
I rated this
book 4 out 5 purple rant hearts and would this series to anyone that enjoys
shape shifters with fangs.

Raving About
Vampires
Hi everyone – Big thanks to
Crystal for being a part of the Night Demon blog tour!
Before I started
writing and publishing vampire novels, I was a fan. Okay fan isn’t a strong
enough word. I love vampires! All sorts of them!
True Blood has
been fun. I still love The Lost Boys and Coppola’s Dracula. The Underworld
franchise has lots of my movie budget too!
And the love
doesn’t stop with movies and television. I also love vampire books. My first
love was Anne Rice’s vampire chronicles. Lestat was my first vampire boyfriend!
He was the epidomy of a “Bad Boy” and I couldn’t get enough. I also fell hard
for Marius. *swoon*
My first
paranormal romance was Christine Feehan’s Dark Series. I burned through those
and hungered for more.
So when I set
out to write my own vampire series, it felt a little daunting. How would I make
mine different? I knew I wanted to set the books in San Diego. We’ve got a lot
of cool Native American and Spanish history here that lots of people don’t know
about. I took it a step further and started researching the oldest
civilizations in the Americas which led me to the Mayans.
The more I
researched, my Night Walker world came to life. I hope readers enjoy the
western immortals as much as I have enjoyed writing them. There is nothing
sexier than an immortal who could kill you, but he falls in love with you
instead… Right?
So what do you
think? What made you love vampires?
