My Rant: This was an amazing Story as is definitely
going in my favorites list. Down for
the count was a quick read but completely filled emotions, comedy, eroticism
and action. Down for the count started of with a gut punch to the stomach when
Lacey found her husband plowing a woman at her wedding reception. WTF,
literally at their wedding reception right after they just got married. That
was completely a low blow and as the referee begins to step in you begin to
think Lacey was about to recover, and bam she is hit with a TKO, because the
women who her husband was banging happen to be her best friend from childhood.
THAT’S IT, the gloves are coming off and at this point I
want to be right beside Lacey as she gives the deceitful twit the beating of
her life. I am so upset at this point I want to hit the wall and almost did.
Thank God I didn’t (my hands are thanking me), because Lacey ended up being the
bigger person and walking away with her head held up high but inside she felt
like crap and so did I. When Lacey
began to mentally beat herself down I just couldn’t take it anymore, I was
crying so hard my eyes were puffy.
Cat comes in and is protective as a mom to a cub and begins
to lighten up the story because she is funny as all get-up. My anger begins to
dissipate a little but completely vanishes when Whalen Galen Thomas came into the
picture.
Galen made me forget how made I was, and you all know how
much I love sexy male characters especially one with a Greek like body that
oozed with sex appeal. What started out as a friend doing another friend a
favor by helping them cope through their troubles turn out to be the most
erotic and emotional roller-coaster ride.
You got to see Lacey work through some of her inhibitions
because she was so closed off. She was so used to conforming to what everyone
else wanted her to be especially the general, Lacey’s wicked mother from the
west. Her mother was an inhibitor completely. A witch on wheel would be my
exact terminology for her. Lacey was so used to conforming to her mother that
she forgot who she was in the process. The author does a great job at
displaying Lacey’s weaknesses and vulnerability throughout the story. You
struggle with Lacey; you feel her emotions as she tries to rationalize with the
way her life is turning out. I can tell you that it wasn’t easy because Lacey
was set in her ways and when you do something so repetitive it becomes a habit
that is hard to break. As Lacey begins to come into her own, you begin to feel
proud of her because she realizes that she is more that what she has given
herself credit for but she still struggled with her feeling for Galen. I am completely screaming at the kindle.
Look lacey snap out of hit, Galen is hot what the hell is wrong with you. Get
it together already chick.
The author begins to work on Galen’s resolve and displays
his emotions that he kept hidden by the invisible wall he put up to protect him
self. But as Galen try effortlessly to help Lacey work through her issues he
began to let his guard down and Lacey step close enough to deliver a 2-piece
combo to the heart he was not expecting and as he drops to the asphalt
unconscious the referee begins to count it down.10.9.8.7
6.5.4.3.2.1……..(TKO). I am jumping up
and down because I am so excited that Galen is falling for Lacey. You begin to
get Giddy over the fact that Lacey and Galen are falling in love with each
other and when they get together their relationship is explosive. Especially
when the erotic scenes begin to burn up the pages, like gasoline on a fire,
someone get me some water before I go up in flames here. Lol.
As soon as you think
the couple has worked out all their issues something else happens to drive a
wedge between them and your left feeling numb because of all the tension that
is created by their insecurities and at this point your heart is shattered into
tiny pieces and you are stuck looking around for all the shard pieces to put it
back together.
As you get to the climax of the book you are an emotional
wreck but your ready for a rematch and your resolve is set to go another 12
rounds and boy does the author make you work for this victory. My palms are
sweaty and I am fatigued but I feel satisfied that I stuck it out and fought to
the end for my fairy tale ending.
